Has HERA reached a new QCD regime?

    Get PDF
These notes are a summary of our efforts to answer the question in the title. Our answer is in the affirmative as: (i) HERA data indicate a large value of the gluon structure function; (ii) no contradictions with the asymptotic predictions of high density QCD have been observed; and (iii) the numerical estimates of our model give a natural description of the size of deviation from the routine DGLAP explanation. We discuss the alternative approaches and possible new experiments.Comment: 29 pages, 37 figures in eps file

Higher twists and maxima for DIS on nuclei in high density QCD region

We show that the ratio of different structure functions have a maximum which depends on xBx_B and AA. We argue that these maxima are proportional to the saturation scale. The analysis of leading and higher twist contributions for different observables is given with the aim of determining the kinematic region where high parton density effects could be seen experimentally.Comment: 16 pages of Latex file,8 figures in eps file

    Theoretical Overview Quark Matter '04

The much wider transverse-momentum range accessible in heavy-ion collisions at RHIC and at the LHC allows us to disentangle the dynamics of partonic equilibration from the dynamics of delayed hadronization. This provides a novel tool for testing the equilibration mechanisms underlying QCD thermodynamics. Here, I argue, on the basis of simple formation-time arguments, why this is so, and I review recent theoretical developments in this context.Comment: 12 pages, Latex, 3 eps figures, invited introductory talk at Quark Matter 2004, Oakland, January 11-17, 200

Cold nuclear effects on heavy flavours (a review)

Before wondering about the quark-gluon plasma (QGP), one has to take into account various cold (normal) nuclear matter effects, that can be probed through p+A like collisions. This article aims at reviewing the current results (and understanding) of these effects on heavy quarks and quarkonia production.Comment: 8 pages, 6x2 figures, SQM08 proceedings, version accepted by J.Phys.G. In this write-up of my SQM 2006 Theory Summary talk I focus on a selection of key contributions which I consider to have a large impact on the current status of the field of strangeness physics or which may have the potential to significantly advance strangeness -- or in general flavor physics -- in the near future.Comment: 16 pages, 4 figures, SQM 2006 proceedings.
